I've just ordered these amazing sunglasses from ASOS in the UK... Thanks to my great friend over there (you know who you are) who is accepting delivery and mailing them to me, I've circumvented the no shipping outside the EU policy on these beauties.

renovating part one

As promised, here are some "before" shots of the rather large project my partner and I have taken on... in the form of an old fibro shack by the beach - not so much "renovating" as "making it livable". More of an exercise in how much you can do for as little cash as possible. It sounds much more quaint than the reality. See below if you don't believe me.

Yes, it's fibro, and no, it's NEVER been painted. Ever.

Kitchen, complete with too much mouse poo... And why oh why would you put the cooker there??

Main bedroom. Thankfully the furniture is now all gone. The family of the previous owner have been outstanding, helpful and kind. Everything you want in a vendor really...

Second bedroom. We've kept the rad painting...


This front room is HUUUUUUGE... and salmon pink! It used to be two rooms and may be again.

We had a fantastic crew of friends help us over the weekend, prepping, sealing, washing, painting... barbequing, drinking beer, grooving to a particularly awesome sound system (thanks Charlie and Shells). And I promise I won't bring an ambient playlist to a painting party ever again...

knit & tuck

I have the good fortune to be part of a fabulous group of women that get together once a month to craft... It's always a grand morning spent drinking buckets of tea and scoffing sweet morsels, while our busy hands (and even busier jaws) get a good crafty workout.



One of our esteemed members decided we needed a name, rather than emailing each other about "craft group" (how utterly pedestrian), we now use our new moniker "knit & tuck"... much racier, don't you think?

Heather, a creative mum and creator of the brand "Ollie and Ruby" taught us all how to crochet granny squares... I haven't been able to put my needle down since!! My three year old tells me to "stop crocheting mummy, play leggo with me!" but I'm addicted! Help!

I'm doing an all-white granny square rug... just to convince the die-hard crochet rug lovers that you can go minimal with colour and still stay true to the ethos of the granny square. All my wool is gifted or thrifted thus far...


I used these awesome tutorials from Meet Me At Mikes' YouTube channel for some reminders after the crochet guru Heather had departed... And my mum's ever useful library of crafty books (originals from the 70s). Awesome. Will post scans of some of those projects another time. They're called things like "A Touch of Class", "Casual Flair" and "Weekender"... need I really say more...?

hipstamatic hype

So I've been getting in on the hipsta action...



and one from my 3 year old - taken in our new house, which we are renovating (more on that later) that has the most unbelievable green carpet...


and I've just heard there's a vintage film version available on the app store too! Danger danger Will Robinson... Well, actually it's only $2 so it's not as dangerous to my wallet as it might be to my time...

a new year's resolution

ok here's one of my resolutions, published to the world of my (two) followers...

I'm going to use my blog rather than facebook for things I come across that I love...

January Musings

So, here we are in 2011... one month in and an awful lot has happened... A new house is happening soon, which means there's LOTS of research (read blog-surfing) to be done! I've come across quite a few lovely postings... here are some of my faves:

These amazing bubble shots by Alex Kisilevich caught my eye over at butter and brass...

And then I noticed these and thought "hang on a mo'... this Alex guy has obviously seen these shots from the 60s by photographer Melvin Sokolsky!!

I found these at Black*Eiffel. Both have their appeal, but the sheer technical mastery in the Sokolsky images amazes me... No Photoshop, no POVray...
